As a pioneer of the American thrash metal movement, MEGADETH rose to international fame in the 1980s and has ever since remained a vital element in continuing to define and redefine the sound and the fury of metal music. MEGADETH are known for their distinctive guitar style, often involving complex, intricate musical passages, and trade off guitar solos. The band’s mastermind Dave Mustaine is also known for his original "snarling" vocal style, as well as his recurring lyrical themes, often involving politics, war, addiction, and personal relationships. With “Thirteen”, their latest opus released late 2011, Mustaine and crew deliver a solid collection of brilliants songs. It’s got the typical MEGADETH aggression, combined with some newer melodic influences and riffs. It’s got the speed and technicality of the earlier work (“Rust in Peace” is a good starting point), combined with the heaviness of “Countdown to Extinction” and the melodies of the mid to late ‘90s MEGADETH. The thrash metal titans are back to Hellfest to headline Mainstage 1 after a fantastic show in 2007. That’s gonna be great, that’s gonna be MEGADETH.
